September 17th 2008-Mile End Park Leisure Centre
Tower Hamlets' Day of Paralympic Sports Celebration to mark the handover of the Paralympics Torch from Beijing to London 2012 was highlighted by two exhilarating performances. Both ‘wet’ in the Swimming Pool and a later ‘dry’ show to an audience of schoolchildren awaiting the handover ceremony on TV were a success. The whole of the Olympic Games pantheon of sports, endeavour, success and heartbreak reduced to just eight minutes! Pictures by John Munday
“ Spirit in Motion”, the tale of six Olympians’ journeying to their game of destiny, eloquently performed by a mixed ability cast of Theatre Venture Universal Citizens and specially invited disabled Artists.
“I’d like to thank Theatre Venture on behalf of the council for your contribution to our Paralympics Handover and Cultural Olympiad Launch events. Both events offered something very different from the normal fare of street performance; the Paralympics swimming pool piece at Mile End Leisure Centre being highly entertaining and a brilliant use of a challenging environment."
